Summary: | Activating the option "Animate on message with open chat" doesn't work like it used to in 4.3.4. Kopete's system tray icon doesn't animate anymore upon receiving new messages on open, unfocused/minimized chat windows. | ||

confirmed still in KDE 4.3.5 (here: also Gentoo). even more critically, this also happens for new messages that have no open chat window yet. this is critical because I do not get a single notification about incoming messages anymore! because of this bug I had to activate the "open message instantly" option (and so, disabling the message queue) in order to get new messages at all. in addition, the animation of the contact icons within the buddy list notfiying me of new messages has gone (see bug 230840). this aggravates the whole problem. I observe this behavior as well - no animated icon in tray for incoming messages (Use message queue, Queue unread messages are checked). But only in Gnome, Fluxbox etc. In KDE it works ok. KDE: 4.4.1 OS: Gentoo amd64 Same here, running Gentoo. And 'mng' flag is enabled as per http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161800#c7 $ equery u qt-gui [ Searching for packages matching qt-gui... ] [ Colour Code : set unset ] [ Legend : Left column (U) - USE flags from make.conf ] [ : Right column (I) - USE flags packages was installed with ] [ Found these USE variables for x11-libs/qt-gui-4.6.2 ] U I - + accessibility : Adds support for accessibility (eg 'at-spi' library) - - aqua : Include support for the Aqua / Carbon GUI + + cups : Add support for CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) + + dbus : Enable dbus support for anything that needs it (gpsd, gnomemeeting, etc) - - debug : Enable extra debug codepaths, like asserts and extra output. If you want to get meaningful backtraces see http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/qa/backtraces.xml - + exceptions : Add support for exceptions - like catching them inside the event loop (recommended by Nokia) - + glib : Enable dev-libs/glib eventloop support + + gtk : Adds support for x11-libs/gtk+ (The GIMP Toolkit) + + mng : Adds support for libmng (MNG images) - - nas : Adds support for network audio sound - - nis : Support for NIS/YP services - - pch : Enable precompiled header support for faster compilation at the expense of disk space and memory (>=sys-devel/gcc-3.4 only) + + qt3support : Enable the Qt3Support libraries for Qt4. Note that this does not mean you can compile pure Qt3 programs with Qt4. - - raster : Use the alternative raster graphicssystem as default rendering engine + + tiff : Adds support for the TIFF image format + + xinerama : Add support for the xinerama X11 extension, which allows you to stretch your display across multiple monitors the mentioned problem still exists in kopete 1.0.0 (KDE 4.4.5) on Gentoo 64bit. Same after update MANDRIVA 2010.0 > 2010.1 kopete v. 1.0.0 kde 4.3.3 *** This bug has been confirmed by popular vote. *** wow! Tray animation is working now! I suppose it's resolved by ysterdays updates. THANKS to developes teem, and other interested! what kopete/KDE version are you working with now? sorry. the same version KDE 4.3.3 and kopete 1.0.0 but on mandriva linux. I don't know what update affects to this, must be some lib. Now the animation changes again! The kopete tray icon like glued after a first message received and it no chenges anymore while the program is not restarted. But if I double clic on such static icon the new unread message window will be opened. That's better than previous situaton, although not less glitchly as all KDE4. Today animation is ok again and tray icon not braking. I noticed that it's a new re-designed icon not from KDE 4.2. Today animation is ok again and tray icon not braking. I noticed that it's a new re-designed icon not from KDE 4.3. My kopete version 1.0.0 AND KDE VERSION IS 4.4.3, I think IT WAS A KDE (plasma) PROBLEM! Closing it since it is working. No, please reopen this again! It is NOT working, not solved, not fixed. I just didn't reply to post #11 because I'm still on kopete 1.0.0 / KDE 4.4.5 and thus had nothing to add to post #4 (Gentoo refused to stabilize and will skip KDE 4.5 because of the kmail/kaddressbook madness). And no, it is still not working: no tray icon animation, no change of buddy list icons on arriving messages. I also use Gentoo, I prefer to unmask the latest KDE SC, in this case 4.6.0 and use KDE-PIM 4.4.10. That combination works, it is only the Gentoo developers who decided to postpone stabilization for all KDE SC stack because of KDE-PIM. All other distributions compile KDE-PIM 4.4.x against KDE SC 4.5.x and now 4.6.x. I cannot talk for the other Kopete developers but I am afraid none of us will try to fix this bug for Kopete from KDE 4.4.x since it is working for Kopete in 4.5.x and 4.6.x. I think this problem is related to the changes in notification plasmoid during 4.4.x -> 4.5.x transition, if so then the only solution is porting the notification API from 4.5.x to 4.4.x. I do not know how big is that task and it is out of scope of Kopete alone and could bring problems for other KDE 4.4.x programs. I will reopen the bug, but I think there will be no solution other than upgrading to a newer KDE SC. Thank you very much for your remarks. I really appreciate that since it makes me (and probably others) see the situation much clearer. I think a lot of all the KDE4-trouble would have been swallowed down much better if there would have been more transparent communication like yours. (Although I'm not sure if any communication could heal what happened (and happens) to kde-pim, kmail and kaddressbook being such great AND essential applications. In the past.) However, if this kopete notification issue is gone in SC 4.5 and 4.6, I definitely understand that it makes not much sense to invest time into porting the functionality to an old and hopefully soon to be replaced branch, 4.4. No idea which flavour of bug closing applies here. Thanks again for your work, I hope kopete will stay my fav IM client. works for me now, since update to 4.6.2 note for anybody who also stumbled upon this: dont forget to re-enable the message queue instead of choosing the option "open messages instantly". cheers, m Still broken for me with Version 1.0.80 Using KDE Development Platform 4.6.5 (4.6.5), Debian testing. Message queue is enabled, animate icon is enabled. But the icon is never ever animated. I get notifications in the "Notifications" plasmoid, which is pretty useless for there is all kinds of stuff in there including old messages I don't care about and I have to click at least twice, but the kopete icon does not animate. When I remove the plasmoid I get a grey box at the top of the screen, very intrusive and will disappear after a while, leaving no trace of a message for the kopete icon does not animate. So I have to open messages instantly, praying for havoc upon kopete every time. Any help? Thank you for the bug report. As this report hasn't seen any changes in 5 years or more, we ask if you can please confirm that the issue still persists. If this bug is no longer persisting or relevant please change the status to resolved. (In reply to Justin Zobel from comment #18) > Thank you for the bug report. > > As this report hasn't seen any changes in 5 years or more, we ask if you can > please confirm that the issue still persists. I moved from KDE to icewm 9 years ago. As far as I am concerned, you can close the bug. I didn't use KDE and kopete for several years. I can't say anymore about this bug, close it, it might be a nice solution ;-) Wow, blast from the past. I open up this bug over 11 years ago. It would be fun to claim that I have checked on its status every day since that day. But the reality is that I forgot that Kopete ever even existed. You have my blessing to close this issue. |
