Description Achim Schaefer 2010-02-16 22:09:21 UTC
Version: 1.0-svn3 (using 4.3.4 (KDE 4.3.4), Debian packages)
Compiler: cc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.33-rc8

As soon as I try to play any DVD (I tried two different) I get a crash.
Crash handler tells me the information is not useful, so I don't attach them.
dragon player works without problems...
Comment 1 Dario Andres 2010-02-16 22:21:16 UTC
Try installing the "kaffeine-dbg" and "phonon-dbg" packages to get a complete backtrace. Regards

Comment 3 Dario Andres 2010-02-16 22:41:06 UTC
It seems to be crashing in the DVD reading library inside the multimedia library named "Xine". But that should cause other KDE applications (like Dragon) to crash too.

- Could you check if the "xine-ui" player crashes/closes too when playing the same DVD ?

Regards
Comment 4 Achim Schaefer 2010-02-16 22:54:35 UTC
package xine-ui was not installed.

After creating a symlink for the DVD device xine works(/dev/dvd did not exist only /dev/dvd1), but kaffeine still producess a crash (maybe a different one, but still useless according to the crash handler).
Comment 5 Dario Andres 2010-02-16 22:56:19 UTC
Try pasting the (useless) backtrace at http://pastebin.com; and give me the link

Comment 7 Dario Andres 2010-02-17 16:52:58 UTC
Try installing the "libxine1-dbg" package and paste here a new (complete) backtrace. Thanks
Comment 8 Achim Schaefer 2010-02-18 00:07:37 UTC
Installed.

I just saw:
I get shortly the name of the DVD displayed.
Kaffeine itself seems to still be running. At least I can click on "Start" in the side tabs and e.g. open a file, but it does not display any more...

Here is the backtrace:

Comment 9 Dario Andres 2010-02-20 22:17:42 UTC
- Have you finally tried with gxine or xine-ui ? It seems weird that only Kaffeine is crashing (but the crash is related to the Xine library)
Regards
Comment 10 Achim Schaefer 2010-02-21 12:30:21 UTC
Yes I tried some time ago, but can't find I wrote it down-)

I install xine-ui package(version 0.99.5+cvs20070914-2.1).
It works after creating the symbolic link /dev/dvd1 /dev/dvd
Comment 11 Dario Andres 2010-02-26 17:20:35 UTC
- Is Kaffeine still crashing after creating that symlink? Regards

Comment 13 Achim Schaefer 2010-05-11 22:30:44 UTC
I just installed the debian 4.4.3 packages.

But I still get the same crash.
Still dragon player works well, even better than before (menu look much better)
