Sorry, made a mistake. It is not a bug, it is a feature request. You can use nepomuk already to add metadata to your documents which is integrated into dolphin. PDF and SVG are not dedicated to store photo data. This is why there is no default suppport in digiKam Gilles Caulier Well, I also can use nepomuk to add metadata to my photos right? There are already supported file formats which also have no support for photo data
*.ogg *.mp3 *.wma *.wav *.mpeg *.mpg *.avi *.mov *.wmf *.asf *.crw *.cr2 *.nef *.raf *.mrw *.orf *.pef *.x3f *.dcr *.kdc *.srf *.raw *.dng
Not all of them have photo data support right? I draw many pictures / commercials and export them to pdf for printing and for sending to customers. Now I wanted to manage everything in one app. Files formats listed here can be generated by a camera, including sound, video, and RAW files. No camera generated PDF or SVG. Gilles Caulier Most work to support additional file formats is already done! I can tag this files add comments and so on. All is needed is an additional line in the preferences dialog for "other file formats" in which case digicam would just let the OS decide which application has to be launched to open that file. What about xfc (Gimp) I often do my work and save it to xfc since it is lossless and saves even layer (and many more) information. These files would defenetly belong into digicam (derived work) Just noticed that there is already a similar request. But I think my request would be the better way. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=145295 Hi, I too would like to see extended file format support (specifically pdf) in Digikam. Rationale: I use digikam to keep track of scanned documents, which works fine with my home scanner (.jpeg files). The industrial grade batch scanner at work is convenient to use for larger volumes of documents, but ot only produces pdf files... Having support for pdf would enable me to keep all documents in the same archive under digikam. Thanks for a great product! Keep up the good work! Cheers Thomas Although I understand your reasons for this wish, I must say I don't agree. Keep in mind, that digikam is heavily focused on photo management (including working with camera etc), but its purpose is not to organize your (other) files. I'd strongly advise you to use Dolphin+Nepomuk for this. Supporting svg would be probably very tricky and just useless (what would you do with it? You couldn't apply any effects or edit it in anyway in digiKam. So just keep it organized and open it with another app? You already have Dolphin for that...). As for scanned docs - well pdf is the right format, but digiKam is just not the right app (again, what would you do with it inside digiKam? Probably just open it with Okular/Adobe Reader/Whatever. And again, for that you have Dolphin...) *** Bug 145295 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** I follow Martin feedback from comment #9. Gilles Caulier |
