Description H.H. 2010-01-11 14:55:53 UTC
Version: Unbekannt (using 4.3.90 (KDE 4.3.90 (KDE 4.4 RC1)) "release 210", KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop / openSUSE_11.2)
Compiler: gcc
OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop

The best is to see a screenshot. quicklaunch icons are not correctly aligned and quicklaunch overlaps the taskbar. (first screenshot)

and if I realign them by "sorting" from context-menu, they are cut on bottom, and taskbar layout is messed up. also the other symbols as kmenu are 1-2 pixel cut off on bottom. (second screenshot)

this happens every kde start. a plasma-desktop restart seems to fixe the overlapping problem.

resizing

oh, and resizing is not good... I increased panel height, the kmenu and most other icons did not resize with the panel, and after decreasing height to normal, the panel looks like in screenshot.
Comment 4 H.H. 2010-03-31 22:12:37 UTC
have this bug still in kde 4.4.1. I cannot resize the panel height, without killing & restarting plasma.
Comment 5 H.H. 2010-03-31 22:21:56 UTC
maybe bug 227177 and bug 227490 are related

I can confirm this bug. Using KDE 4.4.2-1 Debian experimental. When I attempt to add a weather widget to the panel it overlaps other panel applets/widgets. It is difficult to move the widgets around in this state. Once, when the weather applet was on extreme left side of panel, the whole desktop hung/froze. The bug should be upgraded to "crash." [Weather widget also does not allow location change. But that is another issue for this disappointingly still unstable, dysfunctional, over reaching and feature deficient KDE 4 desktop.]

Those are actually individual independant bugs of each plasmoid.
I think what is going is that the plasmoid is drawing outside the region it reported it needs. but i'm not sure about that
Comment 8 Bryan Cebuliak 2010-05-07 23:19:57 UTC
sounds similar to this report:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=229280

Labelled WONTFIX because someone called a bug a "design decision".
How are we to progress with that sort of attitude?

   Description From Alvise 2010-03-03 18:56:11 (-) [reply]

Version: (using KDE 4.4.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: openSUSE RPMs

I have seen this problem with the whole series of KDE SC4.x :

-When a plasmoid freezes, the whole workspace becomes frozen or quite
unresponsive. I've had this problem with yawp or with a stocks widget
(stockoid?) that would freeze in case of failing net connection. Then the whole
desktop would become hardly usable.

- When a plasmoid crashes, the whole plasma workspace crashes. I have this
problem with SC4.4.0 and SC4.4.1 each time I login in the OpenDesktop widget:
the widget crashes and so does plasma.

Plasma should be more robust, in a way that a bug in a plasmoid cannot spoil
the other plasmoids or the whole desktop

this is a design trade-o decision that has been discussed extensively
elsewhere.

Bryan: please don't start spamming unrelated bug reports with other reports. We also have some shared expectations for how we interact with each other: http://www.kde.org/code-of-conduct/

Comment #6 is out of bounds as far as I'm concerned. We can either continue constructively, or we can just close your reports as being unmanageable. Your choice.

I just tested with the weather widget on various panels, and it is currently in good working condition.

As for the original report:

The issues with quicklaunch should be addressed in 4.5 as it went through a major refactoring and the resizing-when-the-panel resizes issue has also been dealt with (pre-release even, iirc?)

I have a similar problem, but only for the Task bar: http://i49.tinypic.com/vyuvc9.png (the overlap is actually bigger.

I can see the icons resizing (correctly, I think), but they don't move into the proper places.

Is this a different bug, or the same one?

BTW: I have Kubuntu 10.04 with KDE 4.4.2.
