Description James J. Dines 2009-10-13 22:20:14 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Mandriva RPMs

Description of problem:

I have a partition that is not mounted at boot and requires some manual effort to mount. I created a Folder View Plasmoid on my desktop and pointed it to the folder. When I log in it shows as empty, which I expect, and in fact that is its purpose - to remind me it isn't mounted yet. Unfortunately after I mount the partition the Folder View Plasmoid doesn't refresh. This is true even if I change the Folder in the Plasmoid setting and then restore it to the original.

The only way I have found to get the Folder View Plasmoid to refresh
is to log out and back in again.

Steps to re-create:

1) Point a folder view to an empty "folder" (i.e. directory), e.g., $HOME/test
2) Create a $HOME/test2 directory
3) Create a file in test2, with `touch test2-file`, for example
4) As root, mount --bind test2 test
5) Observe that, in a shell logged in as either root or the user you will see the file createdbin test2 as test is bind mounted, but the folder view does not show the file :-(

reproduced.

Refreshing the folderview still doesn't show the file
Comment 2 Nicolas L. 2010-06-07 12:26:47 UTC
maybe when the partition is initially unmounted, folderview could try at specific time interval to refresh

refreshing the view now works. Moving the auto-refresh option to a wishlist as it's not really a bug.

Hello!

This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this feature request. If the requested feature is still desired but not implemented in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
