Description Caliburn 2009-08-17 02:17:26 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Unlisted Binary Package

The desktop taskbar appears transparent when using certain plasma themes in Kwin. However, on using these same certain themes in Compiz, the desktop taskbar suddenly loses it's transparency (ie. the new theme, Air).

Possible relation to bug 203595.

Using latest Arch Linux builds, KDE 4.3.0.

It should be added to this: this is new as of 4.3.0. On 4.1, 4.2, 4.2.1, 4.2.2, 4.2.3, and 4.2.4 per my testing, no version presented this issue and Compiz sat alongside happily w/ KDE. This issue is completely new to 4.3.0 and was not evident on listed versions prior.

For further notation, this does not appear to affect the Analog Clock, Folder View, or other desktop widgets transparency. Only the taskbar's transparency is affected by switching to Compiz.

Could you check if this is related/the same as bug 203332 ?
Thanks

This does appear to be the same bug. I performed the steps listed within the initial message by David:

kbuildsycoca4
kquitapp plasma-desktop >/dev/null 2>&1
kstart plasma-desktop & >/dev/null 2>&1

.. in an open Yakuake terminal and things came back working with taskbar transparency. Thanks for the recommendation, Dario!
