Can you please check the MIME type of the problem MP3 attachment, via right click - Properties. Or, alternatively, attach a complete message which demonstrates this problem to this bug report. It is possible that the sending email system has specified the wrong MIME type for the attachment, e.g. "application/octet-stream". Dolphin tries harder to detect the MIME type via file magic, but KMail doesn't. Ok, actually it's a "application/octet-stream" MIME attachment. What should we do know? Close the bug or leave it open until KMail implements more detection magic? Thanks for the quick answer! What should we do? - good question. There was a fix a long time ago (bug 35836) to get the MIME type from the file name for unknown MIME types, but that doesn't solve the problem where the specified type is application/octet-stream (i.e known but meaningless). Obviously KMail could look at the file name in this case, but that would give the wrong information in the case where the file really is meaningless binary data and application/octet-stream is the appropriate type. Not sure whether MIME type detection by contents magic could ever work here, especially with IMAP. Changing bug to a wishlist, since KMail is working as intended. *** Bug 190798 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 72948 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 84740 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 85475 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 199297 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Thank you for your feature request.
