In kmail, after composing a new message, and after clicking on "attach file", when passing over the list of files with the cursor, the application suddenly hangs, the cursor starts oscillating slightly, and there is no more response to the mouse or to the keyboard, no way to terminate the application or switch applications or desktops.

if this locks up completely your desktop (not being able to move the mouse is probably an X-Server/graphics card driver problem) is nothing we can fix with kmail.
Try changing your X11 driver to "vesa" or some other non-proprietary driver.
Also, it might be helpful to know on which specific file you were hovering with the mouse when the hang appeared.
Test also with other applications, be they KDE or non KDE.
If you are still sure that it's only a problem within kmail, please reopen this issue.
