I have this same issue...Kopete logs in to MSN and AOL fine...but Yahoo Messenger just continues to say "connecting" and never changes. This issue is present in Kopete v 0.60.3 Using KDE 4.1.3 (KDE 4.1.3) "release 4.10.4"....However I installed Kopete 0.12.7 Using KDE 3.5.10 "release 21.11" and that one connects to all IM protocols fine.

The Yahoo protocol changed so that affected login.
Check bug 197104, it contains a workaround, also the code was fixed in KDE4.3 and some distributions are backporting it to KDE4.2
Thanks
