Description Amitav 2009-05-08 17:07:36 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.3)
OS: Linux
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

I experience random screen locks. There is no pattern or predictability about them except one common thing: if in a session I am having random screen locks, restarting the session is no good; but restarting my system helps. The frequency of occurrence is about once in 20 sessions.

Whenever my screen is locked randomly, the screensaver comes up and I have to enter my password too. So, I checked the screensaver settings in "Configure Desktop" > Desktop > Screen Saver. The "Require password to stop" option was checked ad grayed out. So, I checked the "Start automatically" option, unchecked the "Require password" and unchecked the "Require password to stop" option and unchecked the "Start automatically" option as well. Yet it did not work.

Then I tried stopping PowerDevil service in Service manager. The screen has not locked since then.

This behaviour does not happen in every session; but the occurrence is random and any session can have it.

Looks like a duplicate of Bug 186786 for me. Maybe of Bug 187210 if it even locks while e.g. typing.

There was a time when one could simple go to Desktop and set the screen saver or disable it but this hasn't worked on my desktop for a very long time now. If i disable the screen saver it still comes on and locks the screen which isn't in the setting.
I got a tip to set this up in system settings - advance - powermanagement - profile. I disable all the power save actions just to test if it works but power Devil continues to do what it wants: start screensaver, lock screen etc.. Doesn't seem normal to me.
