Description Dotan Cohen 2009-05-07 16:50:07 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.2)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Please add an option to have the Folders Panel start in $HOME and not in /. Most users need only to navigate their home directories.

Further evidence backing this up is the fact that the main Dolphin window itself starts in $HOME, not in /.

Yes, please. I want to confirm this wish. I suggest to implement it as Konqueror does where the tree view starts with the home folder when the home-folder-button is pushed. In Dolphin the tree view still starts with / although the home-folder-button is pushed.

Debian/testing, KDE 4.3.4
openSuse, KDE 4.4.1

The problem seems fixed in dolphin 1.99(or maybe even earlier versions).
Comment 3 Peter Penz 2011-12-15 16:33:56 UTC
@Jekyll Wu: This is not fixed yet, the folders from / are also visible in the Folders Panel :-(

Interesting note: In Dolphin 1.0 from KDE 4.0 the Folders Panel started from home and people complained ;-) However it might make sense to be able to configure this and use home as default...

I don't think that an automated solution would be helpful. There are users who always just want to see the folders inside their home in the tree, there are users who always want to see the whole tree and there are users who want to see either the home tree or the root tree depending on what they're doing. So the only solution IMHO would be to add a switch to quickly change from one view to the other.
