Description doutor.zero 2009-04-13 02:04:16 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Mandriva RPMs

Is not possible to rename a filename adding accents to it's name, if you do that directly in the KDE's desktop. The accentuated characters are not entered, they appears separated from the letter, something like this "'a~a", instead of 'áã'.

- My language is pt_BR (Brazilian Portuguese).

- I'm using that option to have icons in the desktop, like in 3.5.x (not folder view)

- This happens in Mandriva 2009.1 RC1 (KDE 4.2.1), RC2 (KDE 4.2.2) and in a Kubuntu Jaunty snapshot (march 10), with KDE 4.2.2.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Create a file with accents anywhere, using any method (Dolphin, Konsole,Create New ->...)

2. Move the file to the desktop (or create it there), and try to rename it with accents.

3. The accentuated character is not accepted, is entered separated from the letter('a~a^a, instead of áãâ).

If helps, I opened this bug in Mandriva Bugzilla:

Thank you.

I can confirm this bug on KDE 4.2.4, on Kubuntu 9.04 (x86).

Anyways, for the sake of consistency, wouldn't it be better if folder view used a pop up window to ask for the new name as Dolphin does?

It seems to be fixed on KDE 4.3 RC 2 (4.2.96) on Kubuntu.

I can confirm it is fixed on the released KDE 4.3 for Kubuntu. Perhaps this bug could be closed.
