When people put URLs in their status message, it is near impossible to visit them in Kopete. There is nowhere in the app you can copy them to paste them into a browser, and you can't click on them in the contact list 
either.

When a status message is displayed in the contact list (Detailed view), any URLs should be rendered as hyperlinks so you can click on them.

Agreed. I can confirm this bug in 4.2.4. This feature used to work flawlessly in the old series. Please hyperlink URL's in status messages!

I second that - this wish is still open in kde 4.3.

I want to add that the status popups of my contacts shouldn't close when I hover them with the mouse. This way kopete could easily make it possible to click a subcontact to chat with, click urls in status messages or even copy&paste these messages. I imagine a similar solution as plasma's folderview offers since kde 4.3.

Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
