This took me by surprise, too. Icons should definitely be getting selected on hover. Also, I note the setting *does* apply in places where it definitely should not, like in the list views of the Kickoff menu editor, which makes editing quite a challenge. Considering single-click to launch is the default behaviour these days, these issues should get a higher priority. *** Bug 249564 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Related (or even a duplicate): bug 204886. I haven‘t even noticed that little option “automatically select icons” but dolphin doesn‘t give a damn about that checkbox.
