This is similar to, but not the same as, http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=88746 (which never did appear to be fixed, afaict).

In KDE 3.5, if you had, for instance, knode open and clicked on the System Tray icon for kmail (or akregator), it minimized kontact and you had to click again to maximize kontact (and kmail).  

In KDE 4.1.3, the behaviour is the same - except that it NEVER switches to KMail (or Akregator).  

Clicking on the tray icon should always restore kontact with the correct application open.

IE, if Kontact is non-minimized and not displaying the related app, switch to that app.  If Kontact is minimized, restore and switch to the related app if necessary.

i get the same in 4.2.2 but whats worse is that when this happens the first unread mail that should be opened gets marked as read but not opened! (see #191603

It seems to be partly fixed now:
Checked with kubuntu 9.04 KDE 4.3.2, kubuntu 9.10 KDE 4.3.3;
kmail and other kontact-parts workes as expected

But failed with Akregator tray icon

I'm using Kubuntu 10.4 with new 4.5.00 version and I still get this. My problem is when Kmail indicates a new mail has arrived, clicking on it does not bring up the Kmail part but goes straight tot he Summary page.

I see this in kmail2, but not in recent previous versions. Clicking the tray icon opens the kontact window with whatever component I last had open before minimizing.

Yeah, well, I've long since abandoned kontact for lack of any activity on ANY of the bugs I've reported over the years.

it seems there is no activity for akregator and a very little activity for kontact

recently they fixed a bug i reported about bad reporting events in the summary in the upcoming events

This bug has never been confirmed for a Kontact version that is based on KDE Frameworks (5.x). Those versions differ significantly from the old 4.x series. Therefore, I plan to close it in around two or three months. In the meantime, it is set to WAITINGFORINFO to give reporters the oportunity to check if it is still valid. As soon as someone confirms it for a recent version (at least 5.1, ideally even more recent), I'll gladly reopen it.

Please understand that we lack the manpower to triage bugs reported for versions almost two years beyond their end of life.

Still happens to me. The way I use kontact gives me a kmail icon in the tray, and a akregator icon. Clicking on either one when kontact is hidden brings it up with the kontact part active that was active when I minimized kontact.

Kontact 5.5.2 from openSUSE rpms. Plasma is 5.10.2, Frameworks is 5.35.0.

Whatever happened to "kde-config --version"?

Of course it's still valid, and has been since version 4 was first released.  I'm using Plasma 5.10.2 and Frameworks 5.35.0, which I believe are the latest, and the problem is still present.  Whatever the problem is, it keeps getting propagated up the versions and never fixed.
