Description Joe Biden 2008-09-28 06:53:47 UTC
Version: 4.1.1 (KDE 4.1.1) (using 4.1.1 (KDE 4.1.1), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler: cc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.27-4-generic

This has been reported before, as Bug #152660 and Bug #153229, but still remains!

Using Kubuntu 4.1.1 and the Home sidebar entry still goes to $HOME and can't find it.

Proof!

In those other bugs it seems the problem goes away somehow. I can't reproduce in Kubuntu 4.1.1. But since it surfaces every now and then, it must be some specific setting somewhere.

I've checked some config files, and the one that could mean problems in that area is this file ( I think, I'm not an expert ):

- .kde4/share/apps/konqsidebartng/webbrowsing/entries/home.desktop
the first 3 lines say where the home folder goes, could you tell me your values for those lines?

Also, you could backup your konqueror related files in .kde4/share/apps and .kde4/share/config, remove them and see if the problem goes away.

We have a downstream bug about this: https://launchpad.net/bugs/281019
It seems to be a KDE3 -> KDE4 upgrade bug.

This comment seems to describe the cause of the bug well: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdebase/+bug/281019/comments/6

I have enclosed above my home desktop file, if it can help.

I have reported this bug through the debian bug tracking system:

Comment 6 FiNeX 2009-11-02 13:27:15 UTC
Is this bug still valid? Or is it an (k)ubuntu bug?
Comment 7 Jonathan Thomas 2009-11-02 13:29:22 UTC
It's a valid KDE3 -> KDE4 upgrade bug. KDE just doesn't handle the upgrade at all.
Comment 8 colour 2010-01-27 21:47:00 UTC
As a workaround I used to delete the old $HOME/.kde/share/apps/konqsidebartng folders when upgrading machines to KDE4. Konqueror recreates this directory when next run and I believe it just holds sidebar settings as per its name - not, for example, bookmarks. As well as clearing out the old URLs it also clears out the defunct icon names.
Comment 9 Janek Bevendorff 2012-06-18 19:26:18 UTC
There hasn't been any activity on this issue for some time. Please check if this issue is still valid for Konqueror 4.8.4 or later.
