Description gmud 2007-10-09 09:16:01 UTC
Version: 0.9.2 (using KDE KDE 3.5.7)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

The ability to duplicate the current window (just like in konqi) would be a great feature.
Comment 1 Stefan Monov 2007-10-09 09:28:19 UTC
I'm not sure about that. Why would you want 2 windows with the same dir open?
Comment 2 gmud 2007-10-09 10:41:33 UTC
Well, there are many situations where it is convinient to have such function. For example, often I have to move or copy files to a different location with some interval between the mv/cp action. Now, I could switch between those two locations with "back" and "forward" buttons or go to the address bar and type those addresses again and again. Or I open a split view: To be honest, I don't like split view, because it looks messy and I don't have the space on my screen for that (and no, I am not a midnight commander fan :) ).
Why not just open another dolphin window through kmenu or mini-cli? Because it's a slower workflow. I would have to navigate to the path where I have to do my actions. Often I have to do operations in subdirs of subdirs of the subdir I am currently viewing in dolphin. Well, it's hard to explain if you've never used that feature of konqi before... It's just a neat function!

This is already available in the KDE4 version of Dolphin :-)

Oh, very well! Thanks for the great app! :)

Where? I can't find it anywhere. You _can_ open a new Dolphin window though, but _not_ duplicate the present one (Dolphin 1.2, KDE 4.2.00). Am I missing something?

Kind regards,

Felix

Ah sorry, I thought that you mean with "duplicate window" the "open new window" functionality. I've reopened this wish!

I would also like to see this feature implemented in dolphin. Opening a duplicate window is often helpful to my work-flow. The new window function always opens in my home folder, which isn't always what I want.

Resetting assignee to default as per bug #305719

In current Dolphin 24.12.2 when you fire New Window it opens new window with the current location you are already in , so I think it can be closed? While true duplicate Window will open new window with the same tabs for example.

PS
New Tab works the same it opens the new tab with the current dir.
