Until I got f8 the problem persevered, despite other efforts. After I installed, not updated to, f8 everything was ok (with the same old xorg.conf). Back to kde-filesystem-3.5-13.fc7.noarch.rpm kdebase-3.5.7-13.fc7.* kdelibs-3.5.7-21.fc7.* solved the problem. With the newer versions (kde-filesystem-3.92-9.fc7.noarch.rpm kdebase-3.5.7-13.1.fc7.x86_64.rp m kdebase-3.5.7-13.1.fc7.i386.rpm kdelibs-3.5.7-22.fc7.i386.rpm kdelibs-3.5.7-22.fc7.x86_64.rpm ) the pointers (cursors) kept working in the text screens, outside of X, which brought me to the idea that kde could be the problem. I only changed these updates back, don't have the insight to guess which of these modules did the trick.
