BTW, it is the statusbar, not the progress bar. Have a look at bug 39097 as well, I think it is almost the same. Apologies - title should read status bar, not progress bar. Whilst this may be resolved by functional changes that also resolve bug 39097 it is not the same problem. A configurable option to write status messages to a log file, with an overwrite on startup function would ensure that messages are available if required, but without interrupting work flow or foreground presentation. Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
