when displaying as 'multi column' or 'icon view' it would be nice to specify
the distance before the text gets truncated. I thought maybe with the icon spacing
but that feature no longer seems available.

this would be a great idea. I suppose an option to disable wraping of filenames in 
the 'multi column' view completely. Then the width of each column should be as 
big as it is needed to display the longest file name in one single line.
