Description m.wege 2006-07-22 21:37:41 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.3)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

The fast search function, which helps to find mails in folders by typing in a few letters does only find a search term, if it is at the beginning. So for example if I have mail from "Max Mustermann" <mwfswfn@blabla.com> it will only find the Mail if I type "Max ..", but not if I search for "mw..." This is a problem, if there some mails which do not contain the real name. So it would be great if the search in folder function would also look for part of the header.

Your analysis is slightly wrong. KMail doesn't find the mail if you search for "mw..." because only the real name is shown and thus only the real name is matched against. If a message lacks the real name then the email address is shown and matched against.

But nevertheless there is a problem in finding all the mails from one author, if they do not have all a realname. I do not know if this helps (in sense of may be there is some code to reuse), but as I recall Thunderbird has a much more comfortable fast search function, where (optional) you can even to a fast search on the content of the mails

I fully understand the problem and I hope that we'll be able to address this with KDE 4.
