The only thing I use the mouse wheel on the panel is cyceling through Desktops and I am irritated that it is only possible to do so when over the pager. 
So I would like to have the ability to use the mouse wheel to switch desktops on the whole panel (e.g. over Quicklunch, Pager, Taskbar, System Tray and whatever else you can put in there) in the fashion like it is when the mouse is over the Pager.

While the mouse is over Quicklunch and System Tray, the wheel has no function at all at the moment, so no funktionality would be broken here.

While over Taskbar the wheel currently cycles through applications, but the sequence the applications are cycled through are far less predictable then if it just would cycle through Desktops. (At least the way I handle it: the different types of applications get the same Desktop every time)

From the point of ergonomics it would be a huge improvement: just ram the mouse to wherever you have located your panel and use the mousewheel, it would be impossible to miss the area where you can easily cycle through Desktops! (granted your panel goes across the whole side) 

(Be sure that you also have the edges inside this area, its a shame that the edges have no function at default setting! Those are the areas you have the least trouble getting the mouse into without thinking about targeting.)
