You are wishing a rudimentary, manual audio limiter. I upgrade your wish to: Clipping detection with selectable actions: -system tray icon flashing while clipping, and logged time of last occurrence -limiter to control the volume knob, with adjustable attack and optional release -soft clipping (gain compression) It could also be possible to: Detect recurring wave top flattening when signal level is not excessive (indicating clipping caused by another application), to flash the system tray icon prompting the user to go lower the volume somewhere upstream the signal way. While this is still on my list of possible features, I recommend to switch to Pulseaudio. Many soundcards are also properly configured to avoid clipping, and also in Pulseaudio you can much easier avoid to touch the relevant controls that cause clippings. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 404387 *** |
