I use kontact on a laptop with WLAN connection (IMAP/Exchange). Occasionally you get out
of range causing TCP connections to stall. Once you get back within range there seems to
be no other way to get kontact going again than to restart it. It does seem to fetch old
mails properly, but it does not check for new email. It stays in 'checking for new mail'
state until restarted.

Wow so old bug, guys I think that is not so hard to fix it, but it makes working with kmail inconvenient. And why it still unconfirmed? As I see not only I catch this issue.

Yes, I can confirm this bug too, and it is very annoying.

Suspending and resuming the machine has the same effect, since the network connection has to be re-established after the resume.

If I'm on a poor network connection, I typically have to restart KMail / Kontact three or four times per day just due to dropped connections.

Can confirm this, KDE 4.3.2 from Kubuntu packages.

Whenever the network is pulled out from under Kontact/Kmail and it can't retrieve email, it just stays in "Checking mail..." status. Try to abort the checking mail processes by clicking their buttons after clicking the little down arrow in the bottom right ends up with the stating "Aborting..." and nothing else.

It's a pain as Kontact has to be restarted, so anything else you are using in Kontact has to be stopped (timers in Time Tracker for instance) and restarted.

Is it a difficult one to fix ? Kopete seems to get it right. Why not just stop regular mail checking when no network is present ?
