That sounds like a distribution packaging problem. What distro are you running? You should report this issue to their bug tracking forum. Hi Philip,

I run SuSe 10.0 and Digikam worked great under KDE 3.5.1 When I tried to
update to KDE 3.5.2 I got an error that Digikam was incompatible with some
KDE 3.5.2 file. I read many people had to delete Digikam before they were
able to install 3.5.2
