I can confirm the bug (Mandriva 2006, KDE 3.4.2). If I set the duration to 1000ms (1sec) and the volume to 50%, I get a 1 second long beep. But if I set the volume to 100% I get a 2 seconds long beep and the volume is the same as before. It looks like that a volume of 50% stands for a duration of 100%. *** Bug 168857 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** still a problem in: KDE Bell Control Module Version Using KDE Development Platform 4.5.80 (4.6 Beta1) Hmm, it's an xlib-bug ! @thnielsen Which version of X11 are you running ? I'm sure it's much newer than mine... The version I have are taken off Suse factory -- fixing my own workstation when it breaks after an update (which happens surprisingly rare these days) is my way of keeping up with desktop knowledge :-) But this bug is visibly old, and not due to the somewhat untested version i have.
