Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.0)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources

Currently it is impossible to get more (older) articles from a news server without unsubscribing, changing your news server global expiry settings and resubscribing. This of course erases all your read/unread and important metadata.

This is important when you normally don't want a huge backlog of message headers but need to search old articles. If I could say "Get More Articles from this group" then I could pull some (configurable?) older messages. Of course, messages marked important or watched threads should never be expired, even if they're older than what the expiry would normally remove.

example news server news.cadsoft.de. It has messages going back to 2001, but it's simply not possible to get at these older messages without jumping through a lot of hoops in knode, and of course trashing all your message metadata. :-(
