Description Michał Kosmulski 2005-12-12 23:24:33 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.0)
Installed from: Slackware Packages
OS: Linux

My desktop is configured to show device icons and there's a CD-ROM icon and a floppy disk icon there. Now, if I go to Control Center -> Peripherals -> Storage Media and uncheck the 'Enable CD Polling' checkbox, all these icons disappear. Regular icons, e.g. links to the home directory and trash etc. are still visible. It is impossible to make the device icons areappear by using either 'Refresh Desktop" menu option or disabling and then enabling again the display of device icons in desktop settings. After logging out and back in, device icons are displayed correctly again. It may or may not be of importance that my system doesn't have HAL installed and the 'Enable HAL backend' checkbox in above mentioned Control Center panel is grayed out.

Kdesktop is no more mantained. Fortunatly this bug seems not to be valid for KDE 4. Please reopen if this bug is not a kdesktop one (and it is not solved) or it can be reproduced on KDE 4.
