which protocol ? Ugh, my apologies. SMB. kopete protocol doesn't matter. This is a limitation in KFileDialog. Howso? I can pick files on SMB shares in Kate or Konqueror with the same file dialog and pull them up. It seems that only Kopete is checking if it's a local file and aborting if it's not. Ok I understand changing the problem title, but why wouldn't Kopete allow me to send a file that's on a network share? Is there some problem in accessing network files to send to someone that makes it different from accessing network files to edit in Kate, for example? If they turned on the flag that says "local files only", they must have a technical reason for that. I don't know what it is. *** Bug 116681 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** well no they're two different issues. If kfiledialog is invoked with a "Local Only" flag then it shouldn't allow browsing remote shares. 11681 is just a wishlist to kopete to allow you to send a remote file. kfiledialog letting you browse remote shares when local only is requested *is* a bug, or at least a nuisance. Is this still an issue in the KF5 version? Dear Bug Submitter, This bug has been in NEEDSINFO status with no change for at least 15 days.
