Attachments: a patch to fix the jabber reconnection bug (I use it in kde 3.5.2)

Description arne anka 2005-10-25 11:22:07 UTC
Version: 0.10.3 (using KDE 3.4.2, Debian Package 4:3.4.2-4 (testing/unstable))
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.13

i frequently experience sudden disconnects from both icq and jabber (most often icq).
not sure what causes that disconnections (imo there was a thread on that, saying it's caused by icq.com changing something, but why jabber then?), but after disposing the error-popup i usually can easily reconnect.
so kopete should either try to reconnect on it's own on disconnect (not caused by user action or shutdown) or have a button in the error-popup saying "reconnect?".
atm i have to close the popup, either open the kopete window or the context-menu of th systray-icon, choose the concerned symbol (icq or jabber), right click and choose "online" (btw "connect"/"reconnect" seems more intuitive to me than "online"/"offline", while "*connect" is an action "o*line" is a staus, i always stumble over it).
if a reconnected could be attempted from the error-popup it would be far more convenient.

ICQ, MSN, and probably some others already reconnect automatically.

Jabber doesn't yet.
Comment 2 arne anka 2005-10-26 10:42:29 UTC
here icq does not. is there a configuration option i have to check?

I'm talking about the SVN version (future KDE3.5)
so you have to wait the next version
Comment 4 arne anka 2005-10-26 11:23:51 UTC
that was not obvious. but thanks for the info anyway.

Does 3.5 also have autoreconnect for jabber? Thanks!

I'm using Kopete 0.11 with KDE 3.5.0, and Jabber often disconnects with a "Sorry, unknown error" message, and I always have to manually reconnect. Gaim also has frequent Jabber disconnects, but it can automatically reconnect (every account type in Gaim can auto-reconnect, it's a simple option in the accounts dialog).

Could this please be fixed? It's annoying, distracting, and makes Jabber unreliable.
Comment 7 Olivier Goffart 2006-01-26 11:09:36 UTC
this should be fixed in the dev-0.12 branch (for jabber)

Hi Olivier,

Will the dev-0.12 branch be part of KDE 3.5.x or do we have to wait for KDE 4.0?
