Summary: | In KDE 3.5 when I use volume keys on my laptop, volume does not go over 10% in the progress bar, and real volume does not change at all. I copied kmix binary to /usr/kde/3.4/bin and it works. | ||

Very similar, except that the KDE versions are different.
They upgraded from KDE 3.2 to KDE 3.3
I upgraded from KDE 3.3 to KDE 3.4
Therefore they have it working in 3.2, but not 3.3
I have it working with 3.3, but not 3.4

There is no such thing as a "progress bar" in KMix. The volume bar that you see is most likely coming from KMilo. Reassigning to KMilo. Christian Esken wrote:

Ok. Thank you.

I just want to make a correction. When I start KDE ans kmix starts automatically, the volume keys don't work still, even with binaries from 3.3, but if I close kmix and start it again, then everything works perfectly fine. Are there any new command options, possibly, that may cause this issue? No, no command options. Again: Please report, wheterher you run KMilo (see comment 3) ! I also have the same kind of problem, but with no known solution... With kde-3.3.2 : fine! With kde-3.4.1 : bad... * kmix opens at startup * the volume window from the laptop controls (little square on top of anything on the screen) opens also. * there is no way to get the volume up (stays at 0% even with the keyboard keys or the gkrellm bar) * the only way to get rid of the volume panel in the center of the screen is to kill kded (killing kmix doesn't work) * starting again kded gets the volume panel back... *copying the kmix exec from /usr/kde/3.3/bin/kmix to /usr/kde/3.4/bin/kmix doesn't work. The problem weems to arise from kde-3.4.1 directly because when asking which kmix in kde-3.3.2, I get /usr/kde/3.4/bin/kmix... I don't use kmilo and don't have it installed. I have kmix from kde-multimedia (I think). I have kdebase with kde-env, kdeaccessibility, kdeadmin, kdebase-pam, kdegraphics, kdelibs, kdemultimedia, kdenetwork, kdepim, kdeutils... My distribution is Gentoo. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 8600. I have a colleague with the laptop, but different CPU. This one doesn't get any problem with the volume panel or sound control even if its kmix opens at startup... This guy uses 'kde' instead of 'kdebase' with lots of separate packages... Thanks for helping me get to kde-3.4.1... I also have this problem (Kde 3.5.4) on kubutu. Kmilo only adjust my volume from 0% to 10% when using laptop keys. Same problem occurs on KDE 3.5.4, using Edgy Eft Ubuntu packages, on a Asus A6T AP014H laptop. Created attachment 17832 [details]
Fix nonworing volume by using masterVolume
kmilo try to regulate volume of channel 0. On my laptop this is not a master
volume. Instead setMasterVolume shall be used. This patch fix the 10% problem
in generic module. Maybe the same shall be done to other modules.
This should be probably closed as a duplicate of bug #134820 This is likely a duplicate of bug 134820. In any case this is a very KDE3 specific bug, and development on that has ended. Thus we could close this as duplicate or wontfix. Lets select "duplicate". *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 134820 *** |
