Description Andrew Rockwell 2005-02-16 00:20:56 UTC
Version: (using KDE Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
Compiler: gcc 3.4.1
OS: Linux

When hiding the menubar in konqueror it is possible to unhide it by clicking "Show Menubar" in the right click context menu.
If you open a new konqueror window the menubar is hidden as it should be, but the text in the right click menu reads -> "Hide Menubar".

This looks fixed in 3.5.5 (using Kubuntu Edgy and Feisty)
Comment 4 Frederik Schwarzer 2006-12-21 13:28:32 UTC
Well, I still see it here on Kubuntu 6.10 live cd.
The important thing IMHO is, that the menubar is hidden when konqueror starts. If this is the case, I always get the "Hide Menubar" menu item in the context menu.

It is not fixed on 3.5.5 even in archlinux packages. Clicking on "hide" show the menu bar. In the menu, under "settings" there is "show", but it's already visible.

In my case the strings are in italian, so "hide" is "nascondi" and "show" is "mostra". Maybe it's only a localisation problem in my case?
Comment 6 Frederik Schwarzer 2006-12-28 04:35:18 UTC
No, it is not just a localisation problem.

I further saw, that in 3.5 branches I was not able to hide the menu bar.
After hinding it the konquerorrc has an entry
[KonqMainWindow]
MenuBar=Disabled

But when starting, the menu bar is there again (while the entry is still "MenuBar=Disabled"

Then I typed /home/user/.kde/share/config/konquerorrc in the address bar and pressed Enter. Surprise: The menu bar is hidden immediately.

It appears again when restarting konqueror, though.

This bug definitvely sucks rocks. Everytime I restart KDE, my previous session is restored with all konqueror menu bars off. I then need to go through all the konqueror windows and select "Hide Menubar" in the right-click context menu.

Then I have to go to Settings->Toolbars->Main Toolbar, Settings->Toolbars->Location Toolbar.

Meanwhile the Settings menu is displaying "Show Menubar".

Next KDE start, same procedure again.

It certainly looks like the "Show/Hide Menubar" feature in konqueror has been programmed with a toggle (on/off) like behaveour, possibly with signals, that just call some toggleMenubar function without ever checking back to reality to see whether the toggle flag and the actual widget visibility are in sync.

Once the toggle gets switched "by accident" - through some different bug - the user has a hard time letting konqueror know of its inverse view of the universe.

Konqueror in KDE4.0 beta4 no longer has this bug.
Comment 9 Tommi Tervo 2007-11-09 09:49:30 UTC
Yeah, seems to be fixed in KDE4.
