Description Aaron Dahlstrom 2005-02-15 04:46:35 UTC
Version: 0.5 (using KDE 3.2.3, (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 (Debian 1:3.3.4-7)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.7

I installed firefox into my home folder and went to kedit to add it to the kmenu, the icon shows up and is functional but when I log out and log back in the icon is gone, I dont think I am adding it incorrectly--->menu editor-->New Item-->name-->command-->/home/aarond/firefox-installer/firefox-->and it adds it, but then it disappears.

I noticed that xmms in the "Sound and Video" submenu appears in the K menu without an icon. After checking the xmms homepage, I realized that XMMS does not come with an icon. I drew a 48x48 icon and saved it to /opt/media/icons. Using kmenuedit v0.6, I edited the menu item for xmms and added my icon. At this point the K menu inside kmenuedit showed my icon. I saved my changes and quit. After kmenuedit exited, I started kmenuedit again. My icon is now gone from the sample menu. The icon file in /opt is still there. It appears kmenuedit is not actually saving the edits.

The icon disappears no matter if I am logged in as a regular user or as root.

[root@tampa ~]# kmenuedit -v

Hi,

the bug report I have openend in 2006 was closed with the remark that it is a duplicate of this bug. "Lately" I have been patient with this bug because I told myself "hey the guys are really busy getting KDE 4 onto the road". Now I have switched to KDE 4.3.4 and the bug is still there.....

This report here has been opened almost 5 YEARS ago!!! This must be a (bad) joke. A basic feature not working for almost 5 years. Please prove me wrong and get this fixed. Show that open source works and that there is a community.

I cannot develop, but I am willing to spend as much time with testing as necessary.

so everyone who reads this please vote for this bug, there aren't much votes on it - maybe people gave up and swichted to fvwm?

Is there anyone who can tell me where the menu entries are saved to and read from?

Secondly how to raise the severity of this bug?
Comment 14 Christian Boltz 2010-10-25 20:21:59 UTC
A somewhat similar bug (bug 227836) has been fixed in KDE 4.4.4 (maybe 4.4.3, didn't test that).

Do you still see the bug described here in KDE 4.4.4 or newer?
Comment 15 Pascal Chambon 2010-10-25 20:31:17 UTC
Sorry, I have no KDE system at the moment, but the bug fixed seems to correspond indeed.
Comment 16 Chris Rizzitello 2011-10-26 13:05:33 UTC
This Bug is affecting me on kde 4.7.2!

make a menu entry then save the menu, the entry doesn't show in the menu at all. after saving it shows updating system dialog, but the entry is not in the menu. if you open the menu editor the entry will be gone. i also edited a menu entry of an installed program and after saving the menu editor the entry was in my menu (with modified parts) but once again after a log out/ login the modified entry is removed.

Icon Bug in kmenuedit is still present.
Comment 18 Justin Zobel 2020-11-08 05:50:16 UTC
I've just tested this on Plasma from git master and kmenuedit changes the icon and it is persisting after a reboot.

Can you please confirm if this issue can be resolved or if the issue is still occurring for you.
