Description Brian Beck 2005-02-12 08:03:56 UTC
Version: 0.7 (using KDE KDE 3.3.2)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
Compiler: gcc (GCC) 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-8)
OS: Linux

I noticed that there are a few typos in the ksnapshot handbook. The version of the handbook that I have is Revision 1.01.00 (2000-12-12), if it is out of date, and the problems have been fixed then I apologize for taking up your time.

Thank you.

* In "Chapter 2. Using KSnapshot" the screenshot is out of date

* On "Taking A Snapshot" the screenshot is out of date

* On "Taking A Snapshot" the following...
The snapshot displayed may be saved immediately by clicking on the Save Snapshot button.

ought to read...
The snapshot displayed may be saved by clicking on the Save As... button. This opens the standard KDE save dialog, where you can choose the filename, folder, and format your snapshot is saved in.

* On "Taking A Snapshot" the following paragraph...
When you want to safe the snapshot in a specific folder with a specific filename, use the Save Snapshot As ... button. Thisopens the standard KDE save dialog, where you can choose the filename, folder and format your file is saved in.

can be removed, as there is no other way to save a snapshot.

* On "Taking A Snapshot" the following paragraph...
To take a snapshot of a single window, enable Only grab the window containing the pointer and then take a New Snapshot.

ought to read...
To take a snapshot of a single window, select "Window Under Cursor" from the Capture mode drop down box.

* On "Taking A Snapshot" the following paragraph...
KSnapshot will display the new snapshot in the preview area, at which time you can choose to save the new image (by pressing Save Snapshot or Save Snapshot As ...) or to grab a new one, by pressing the New Snapshot button.

ought to read...
KSnapshot will display the new snapshot in the preview area, at which time you can choose to save the new image (by pressing Save As ...) or to grab a new one, by pressing the New Snapshot button.

* On "Taking A Snapshot" the following paragraph...
To take a new snapshot of the entire desktop, uncheck the Only grab the window containing the pointer option. KSnapshot will now capture the entire desktop if you press New Snapshot.

ought to read...
To take a new snapshot of the entire desktop, select "Full Screen" from the Capture mode drop down box. KSnapshot will now capture the entire desktop if you press New Snapshot.

* On "Taking A Snapshot" the the following paragraph or something similar should be added...
To take a new snapshot of an arbitrary region of the desktop, select "Region" from the Capture mode drop down box. KSnapshot will now allow you to select a region of the desktop by clicking and dragging your mouse if you press New Snapshot.

* On "Additional Features"
The sentence...
When you want to print your snapshot from the preview, just click Print Snapshot and you get the standard KDE Print dialog, from where you can directly print your snapshot.

I have fixed some of these already, but the patch is being held until just before packaging. I will work through each issue and verify that it is corrected.

Thanks very much for the detailed description in the bug report - that makes it very easy to check / verify things.

I have done a check, and made a couple more amendments based on your suggestions. However the screenshots still need to be updated. Would you like to do that?

Since you are familiar with ksnapshot, I guess the How won't be a problem, however you should note that there are guidelines on how snapshots are supposed to be taken (for commonality across KDE docs). See http://i18n.kde.org/doc/screenshots.php if you haven't done this before.

Then just attach them to this bug report.

As you can see I just put the screenshots up. If there is any problem with them just say so, and I'll fix them. (There shouldn't be though I followed the recommendations closely.)

I also wanted to say thank you for passing that job back to me it's awfully rewarding to be able to give something to the KDE community (however small), I'm usually on the taking side of things.

CVS commit by bhards:

New screenshots for ksnapshot handbook.

Thanks to Brian Beck for providing these, and for the text updates.
The text updates will be committed just before KDE3.4.
