Version: cvs (using KDE KDE 3.3.2) Installed from: Mandrake RPMs Compiler: GCC 3.4.1 OS: Linux When I try to DCC a file, or establish any kind of DCC connection, the recipient sees an offer, but cannot accept. On my end, I start receiving messages in the status bar that konvi hasn't heard from the server in xx seconds or some time. I have to abort the transfer, then restart konvi to reconnect to the server. I am behind a netgear router, and there is no iptables firewall running on the machine. This happens if I specify a specific port to use for DCC transfers and open the same port in the router. Interestingly, xchat is able to initiate a DCC session without making any change to the router (ie leaving all ports closed). If I tell konvi to use the same port that xchat successfully used (thinking that xchat got lucky somehow) konvi still fails as I have described.
Well, this very well be my router. The laptop that works fine with DCC at the office, does the same thing when on my home network. I now realize xchat does the same thing unless ports are open, but neither xchat or konvi need ports open at work. I also found this after googling a bit. There are several interesting posts here. http://www.homenethelp.com/comments/display.asp?toptext=The+NetGear+RP114+Web+Safe+Broadband+Router+reviewed&article=%2Fweb%2Freview%2Fnetgear%2DRP114%2Easp&messageNo=6167 I will keep researching, and I will swap the wireless router I have for my RP114 to keep testing.
Okay, I swapped out my Netgear RP114 for my Netgear MR814v2 that I was using simply as a Wireless Access Point and the problem went away. Konvi now connects without a problem to a DCC. I can initiate no problem, even without setting port forwarding on the router. This looks like an issue specific to that router. I won't close yet, because I think it is worth testing a little more. But all is working fine now.
Closing as invalid since it is not a bug in konvi, but a bug in the router.
