Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.2) Installed from: SuSE RPMs OS: Linux (yet another resize item ;) Seen in another application and appreciated by users; konsole should stick to it's number of karakters although it is being resized. Current mode e.g: konsole has fontsize huge and is scaled to 80x24. Now when this size is made smaller the fontsize stays the same. It is appreciated that in this case the font size is adapted to the new konsole size (if possible at all). With other words the konsole size is leading 80x24 stays 80x24 karakters no matter the size of the terminal. This mode is working to monitor e.g a number of processes in several konsoles on 1 desktop. For this reason the konsole should be small. If now something happens with 1 of the processes the konsole size is increased and so is the font (as it will follow the konsole size). I hope it is clear what I mean.
I would like to add, that the font should only change if the user resizes konsole at the same horizontally and vertically, so it must be resized from a corner.
The problem with these (re)size wishes is that each session opened can have different font sizes. Having to 'scale' the fonts would be a lot of work for each session. You can always change the font size and then select the Settings->Size. What "Seen in another application and appreciated by users;" are you referring to? I'll say this is highly unlikely...
Hi Kurt, > The problem with these (re)size wishes is that each session opened can have > different font sizes. Having to 'scale' the fonts would be a lot of work > for each session. Ah, of course. > You can always change the font size and then select the Settings->Size. That is possible, and I showed it as well. But it this is not as convenient as just dragging (pulling?) the corner of konsole window and get the right sized font with it. > What "Seen in another application and appreciated by users;" are you > referring to? I'll say this is highly unlikely... It's a terminal program on MS. I think it is the terminal emulator of exceed. If it is not exceed it is probably the native one from MS. What about making it configurable, that switches such a behaviour on or off? Like you, I was a little sceptic about the use real benefit of that functionality. But once shown I opened the wish report for konsole. I was shown the functionality for a task that is highly demanding and requires the right tools/functionality for the job. There are 3 systems to be converted at the same time, and they need to be monitored consistently => using tabs is not possible => because of this at least 6 konsoles are needed to be on the monitor and all monitors should be monitored at the same time => small font (hardly readable). Now something happens on 1 of the systems => drag corner (bigger font) => nothing serious => back to monitor mode (push corner) smaller font. This happens many times during the conversion... I hope you get the idea. font :)) => Ah, it's okay
I just remember that at work on MS, powerterm does this auto scaling of the fonts. It can do this because it doesn't have to worry about more than one session (ie. no tabs). The font-setting-config may go through some changes in KDE4.0. I've been thinking about removing the Small->Huge and replacing them with 'decrease/increase size' Anyway, don't hold your breath for this wish.
What about resizing the font for the active session only? I think that this would be acceptable (even) from a usability point of view. Would that make it possible to hold my breath? ;)
A possibility, although this is a fairly low priority wish.
I think this ventures into the area of excessive options, I'll have to turn this one down. Having said that, it is much easier to resize the text in KDE 4, you just hold down Ctrl++ for a few moments.
> Having said that, it is much easier to resize the text in KDE 4, you just hold down Ctrl++ for a few moments. But this does not keep the screen at the same size, e.g.: - I have a 80x24 font 10 konsole. If the font is now increased to e.g. 12, the konsole size is about 64x20. The feature request is about keeping the konsole size the (in this example 80x24), but to increase the font size.
I had some more thoughts on the use case you outlined yesterday, and I think I might have a better solution than autoscaling the fonts ( though that it still implement-able ). Will reopen for now as a reminder.
I think the ability to resize using Ctrl and a mouse scroll wheel is quite satisfactory for this kind of scenario.
