Version: (using KDE Devel) Installed from: Compiled sources I had trouble finding a previous bug report under either kdesktop or kicker, and saw mention of this on http://dot.kde.org/1105642626/1105720938/, so if this is a dupe, I apologize. I will actually be surprised if its not previously reported. Also, I wasn't sure where to report this, either under kdesktop or kicker, but I figure since it requires action through kicker and is sensitive to kicker's settings (size of panel), maybe it is best reported as such. The bug is when you resize a horizontal (top/bottom aligned) kicker panel with align to grid selected for the desktop, the icons on the desktop shift. The amount to which they shift seems to be related to the size the panel is (more height of a panel being hidden, the more shifting occurs on the desktop). This bug also resides on KDE startup, as it looks that the desktop is loaded before the panels. Related, if you move a horizontal panel to a vertical position and then back to its original horizontal orientation, the shift occurs as well.
I can confirm the same problem. But, since it happens on a Kicker restart as well, I think it's a kdesktop problem instead. And, btw, there are no icons close to kicker. They are all opposite.
Same problem here with KDE 3.3.92. My kicker is set to 'tiny' and if I hide/unhide the panel, the icons shift their position to the top of the screen. After a while of doing this, they keep the position and jump only up or down when I hide/unhide kicker. (My desktop resolution is set to 1024x768) The icons also change persistently their location on the desktop. I've enabled 'show device icons' for the floppy and CD-ROMs without interacting with kicker - I sort them and with the next start of KDE, they are'nt where they should be. This is really driving me nuts...
I agree. This is a pretty major bug IMO and hope it can be resolved before 3.4 rolls out.
i can confirm this for 3.3.2a (using suse rpm packages)
Just a note for someone with privileges, the title of the bug should be renamed to something more descriptionive, such as Desktop icons shift on KDE Startup / Kicker hiding / Device icons appearing Might be a little long though, so feel free to reword.
Sounds awfully close to bug #47627 to me.. ;)
Now that you point it out, it does. It would be ok is someone marked this bug a duplicate of #47627 if that bug is reopened.
Problem persists in KDE 3.4 rc1 (SuSE rpms)...
I experience the same problem - permanent shifting of icons during hide/unhide of kicker when grid align selected in the final release of KDE 3.4. Seems like hiding/unhiding the kicker changes also the desktop size info used by kdesktop. I can't remember this bug in KDE 3.1, 3.2 or 3.3.1 I'm using qt-3.3.3 lib. The way how icons of removable devices, e.g. USB flash are included is also very messy. The should appear on the bottom but they appear just anywhere and break the carefully ordered desktop icons.
The same happen when kicker is moved to other edges. Icons are ascending then. (Those which are at the bottom).
dup, as requested by reporter. BTW: I'm about to commit a fix to 47627 for KDE 3.5 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 47627 ***
Bug closed. Kdesktop is no more mantained.
