Description Steve 2005-01-21 00:26:07 UTC
Version: 1.7.1 (using KDE 3.2.3, Mandrake Linux Cooker i586 - Cooker)
Compiler: gcc version 3.4.1 (Mandrakelinux 10.1 3.4.1-4mdk)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8.1-10mdk

kmail seems to have more bizzare imap behavior with each update. Kmail crashes randomly when accessing imap folders; kmail sometimes will not show message content, just list message headers; and sometimes messages are listed twice or randomly deleted.

And what shall we do with this description?
We need either a way to reproduce _a_ problem (not 4) or a backtrace from
a kmail compiled with enabled debugging.

Comment 2 Johannes Zarl-Zierl 2005-01-25 16:39:08 UTC
This random crash concerning imap happens to mee, too. Typically, kmail crashes as soon as I enter an imap folder and the download of the message to be displayed has finished.

I don't know whether this is much help without all the debugging information (if it helps, I can also try to reproduce the bug not using a binary package of kmail), but here is the Backtrace on my system (Debian sid):

#kmail -v
Qt: 3.3.3
KDE: 3.3.2
KMail: 1.7.2

We definitely need a backtrace from a kmail compiled with --enable-debug=full

Comment 4 Steve 2005-01-26 03:52:32 UTC
unfortunately I installed from mandrake rpm. Maybe if I have time I can
rebuild an srpm.

cheers

Sorry, I somehow missed your reply in time...

Unfortunately (Well, to be honest, fortunately for me) the crashing stopped. I still have the same KMail/KDE/Qt versions installed and I didn't alter anything with the IMAP-account, so I'm relatively clueless, though happy.

I think, Kmail was upgraded in Debian since I wrote my initial comment, so perhaps it was a packaging-problem(?).

Cheers anyway,
  Johannes

Ok, this isn't reproducible and appears to have resolved itself by magic for at least 50% of all people reporting this behavior. Let's assume its fine until evidence to the contrary shows up.

This crash happens to me very often with KMail 1.9.6 embedded into Kontact 1.2.4 (Kubuntu 6.10 packages).

Our IMAP server is dovecot 0.9.11 from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.

I also don't know what exactly triggers this crash. It seems to have to do with downloading messages from the IMAP server. It happens e.g. when starting KMail in the morning and lots of messages from the night are downloaded. This just happened while I was reading feeds in embedded Akregator and KMail was downloading messages in the background. Here is the backtrace of this crash:

Comment 9 Stephan Kulow 2007-03-22 10:22:36 UTC
no idea why Stefan reopened a completely irrelevant bug report.
Comment 10 Marcus Better 2007-11-16 08:31:22 UTC
I got a very similar crash (twice now) shortly after startup, after Kmail displayed a network error dialog (the server could not be reached).

I have a simple configuration with only one IMAP account configured. The system is Debian i386, kmail package version 4:3.5.8-1. The Debian bug report:
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=443268

Please reopen this bug.
