Description Gav Wood 2005-01-19 17:26:32 UTC
Version: 3.3.91 (using KDE 3.3.91 (beta1), Gentoo)
Compiler: gcc version 3.4.3 (Gentoo Linux 3.4.3, ssp-3.4.3-0, pie-8.7.6.6)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.9-gentoo-r1

like many other application windows in kde, konqueror is guilty on not providing a nice bottom-right corner resize widget that is ohh-so-useful to those of us without huge window borders.

Most apps don't resize themselves. Window managers do.

the kwm window manager, and by extension all kwm skins, by and large, do not
make *any* attempts to provide any sort of useable (fitts-law) resizing
method. this is simply a technical matter moer than anything - to introduce a
widget inside the window themselves as an occasional one does simply means
anything there already gets wiped out. so, for an intra-window solution, it
(currently) has to be done at the aplication level.

currently users have 3 options:

1. always have a hand on the keyboard for the alt-right mouse resizing method.
2. have a large window *border*, which takes up valuable screen estate
needlessly.
3. get annoyed trying to catch the 1, 2 or 3 pixels "invisible" (i.e.
unmarked) border area where resizing can occur.

this could all be fixed simply and easily by putting a resize widget in, just
on the right side of the status bar. it would take essentially no space and
would allow users more screen estate by letting them get rid of their bulky
window borders.

Kwin in KDE 4 add a "corner grip". Resizing windows is completely done by the window manager, not by the apps itselfs.
