I also have something very similar in Mandrake 10.1. I run a number of different machines, sharing a $HOME across NFS. Whenever I run on another machine and then switch to my laptop, my laptop gets a similar error. Subsequently when the error "Knotify Problem - Knotify" comes up with "During the previous startup, Knotify crashed while instantiating KNotify. Do you want to try again or disable aRts sound output?" If I select "Try Again" everything works and sound comes back again (until next time I utilise a different machine and then come back to the laptop).

Here's my debug output from the Sig11.

Duplicate of #91497 or #94918 ? Please post the output of "cat .kde/share/config/knotifyrc". Thanks.

i have no knotifyrc only a knotify.eventsrc
Comment 4 Paul 2005-06-07 00:50:40 UTC
I too have this problem.

When Mandrake 2005 Limited Edition (10.2) is starting up or log out then back in again, I get the same error message. I don't actually use sound on this machine (no speakers) so, I can't tell if the sound comes back when I tell it to try again or not.

Here us the Backtrace:

This was after I told it to disable.

I also have the same bug.
After I changed: Use Arts=false , the bug disappeared, but i had no notifications sounds, so this is not a solution..
Someone has a solution wich solves the bug, and the notifications sounds remeain?
Comment 6 Matt Rogers 2008-11-19 23:38:19 UTC
Arts is no longer developed and has been unmaintained for quite some time - more than 2 years. With phonon as the replacement for arts in KDE4, we're closing out all the arts bugs in Bugzilla since there is no chance of them being fixed.

Thanks
