Description bmarsh 2004-12-17 04:34:48 UTC
Version: unknown (using KDE 3.3.2 Level "a" , SUSE 9.2 UNSUPPORTED)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 (pre 3.3.5 20040809)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8-24.5-default

I use alt-tab A LOT and also have the 'traverse all windows' set for its use. When KDE 3.3.0 came along, I noticed that quite often, when alt-tab'ng to a particular window and releasing the keys, a different window/task than the one selected would appear. Trying a second time would work.

This is still happening in 3.3.2.

I can't reproduce this with KDE 3.4 alpha 1
Comment 2 bmarsh 2005-02-20 17:39:55 UTC
More information. Along with Alt-tab, I also use the 'show desktop' icon in the sys tray a lot. The described problem occurs when doing the following:

1) Click on the 'show desktop' icon to clear the desktop
2) Use alt-tab to select a task to view
3) The task which comes up will be the LAST task in view before (1), regardless of which task is selected in (2).

This should be repeatable in every case. Perhaps this is the way it was designed to work but it is a little disconcerting in use.

I upgraded to 3.4 about two weeks ago. The problem persists............

I cannot reproduce what's described in comment #2. Do you have any special settings?

The settings under 'window behavior (focus)' are:

Click raise window
Show window list while switching windows
Traverse windows on all desktops
desktop navigation wraps around

Those last two or three might be the difference. Other than that, I think
it's pretty much the default settings.

Please try to provide another testcase to reproduce the problem.

Ok, here's the environment (different than previous)
1) A fresh install of SUSE 9.3 on a totally different machine.
2) KDE 3.4 level 'b' in use as distributed
3) Using 4 desktops.
4) 'Traverse all desktops' is set in mouse focus
5) Start up control center in desktop1 and konqy in desktop3
6) in DT 3, use the 'desktop access to minimize konqy window.
7) Switch to DT 1 and use the 'desktop access' to minimize control center.
8) Using alt-tab try opening konqy.

You'll have to play with it but I even got it to the point where:

1) DT 1 was minimized, I was on desktop 3. Konqy was visible.
2) Using the Desktop access, I minimized Konqy.
3) PRESSING CTL-F1 kept me at DT 3 and Konqy opened.

Note: This is a completely fresh install without any diddling or configuring
other than mentioned above.

This is not a biggy. I guess if you can't reproduce it, it can be closed as
<whatever you want to call it>
