Version:           0.9.1 (using KDE KDE 3.3.1)
Installed from:    Gentoo Packages

if you select overrule foreground color, it doesn't. Background color works, but the foreground color is still the same like the sender sends it.

which protocol is this with?

in this case with ICQ protcol, but it would be good to have it for all.
