Version:           0.11.17 (using KDE 3.3.0, Gentoo)
Compiler:          gcc version 3.3.4 20040623 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.4-r1, ssp-3.3.2-2, pie-8.7.6)
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.8.1

it shows the same behaviour as reported in the bug report 73853 (and the same configuration screen) but there is no button 'ignore speed' and when i try to burn the message 'K3b did not find a suitable writer' appears - 
BUT
as root all works fine and the configuration screen shows for all items 'YES'

Could you please check if this bug still occurs with the recent version of k3b 
(0.12.17)?

looks like a permission problem.
