Description Jörg Hoh 2004-12-03 00:32:22 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.1)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux

The blue link bar (white font, blue background) on the bottom of every help page has 2 flaws:

a) "prev" (why don't you write it "previous") and "next" have 2 meanings. It can be the last/next page (like in a book), or it can be the last/next page in the history (if you use the help system as a hypertext system). Can you make this much clearer? Perhaps replace it by an icon?

b)Below the prev- and next-Link is the name of the previous/next page in the same color as the clickable link "prev" and "next", but the name isn't a link. The User gets confused. Plase change the color of that name.

A small third point: What does "home" mean? My home is my castle? Or the first page of the "book" aka the toplevel page of the help system? The user can mistake that "home" for the "Home" Icon of the desktop.)

By tradition, 'next' and 'previous' are context bound, while 'back' and
'forward' is history bound.

It should be a link. Having the text is nice, on a side note I allways found
the *tradition* of not showing the title for the next/previous pages in the
top of the page strange -- why am i supposed to be more interrested in where
'next' is in the bottom of the page??? A nice link form of the link text
would be 'logic-place: title' ("next: Introdoction" etc)

Guess once... Of cause any docbook generated file contains a link to your home
directory... The name 'home' is a tradition too. Maybe 'Front page' would be
nicer?

"Home" may be confusing, so "Front page" would be much better.

"Contents" seems best. If there's agreement on this, I'll change it in the XSL.
Comment 4 Marek Laane 2007-08-01 23:43:45 UTC
There is still Home...
(BTW, i do not find it confusing but of course Contents may be more clear...)
Comment 5 Philip Rodrigues 2007-08-02 00:52:25 UTC
SVN commit 695365 by philrod:

Use "Contents" instead of "Home" for the links on each doc page
