Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.1) Installed from: Compiled From Sources Compiler: gcc 3.3.2 OS: Linux When multiple sounds are played through arts, sound gets louder (seems to be twice as loud when two sounds are played. What I did to test: * hold backspace in konsole, so multiple beeps are played * click the "test sound" button in the kcontrol sound system module multiple times * play multiple sounds with XMMS with arts output In all cases the sound got louder, the konsole method the most noticeable.
I am not sure what you think is wrong. If course it is twice as loud when you play two sounds.
Sounds should just get mixed. If I hold backspace in konsole for just one second, the beep has changed into a horribly loud noise. I don't think that is what it's suppost to be.
I find Allan's comment confusing myself. But I don't notice the problem.
The point is that when two sounds are played, they are added together. This means that if the volume for one sound is 15 and for the other it is 20, the total volume will be 35. The only way to avoid that would be if you halved the volume for each sound when two are played, but that would be plain odd. I am closing because it works as intended, and as it does in Real Life(TM)
I understand it now at least :) This is the same as my two birds, that make together more noise than each of them alone ;)
