Description Bart Verwilst 2004-11-18 14:35:45 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.1)
Installed from: RedHat RPMs
OS: Linux

The sound of the incoming messages of kopete are WAY too sharp and intrusive. When you're in 2 or 3 conversations at the same time, the constant pounding of the tones into your head make you get a headache, and make you aggressive :p

Thanks! ;)

LOL

This bug made my day :)

However - it should probably be clarified. Do you want new sounds, or do you
want them to happen less often, or?

You know you can enable / disable sounds and change them to anything you want
in the notifications area, right?

Hehe, i wrote it while hacking installers and kernels for work, and the constant stream of irritant msg sounds got well... irritating ;)

Well, a softer tone would be nicer, the current one is way too euhm.. 'high' and 'sharp'? Replacing it with a sound that isn't as high-pitched would be sweet... I know i can change the sounds myself, but i haven't found a nice sound yet :) ( MSN's sound isn't too bad, but i refuse to use that :D ) A sound per message is fine though.

By the way, in the meantime i've had a mental breakdown and started to use the MSN sound after all :$ :p *crawls in a corner in shame* Hopefully some guy out there is forging the gr3@t3$T k0p3t3 s0undZ ever ;) The person who finds me some nice sounds, and gets them included as default in kopete, will receive 10 euro from me, YES, that's right!! _10_ euro!!!

The sounds from Psi are pretty good too, maybe you should pick those ones.
Comment 6 Jason Keirstead 2005-02-09 19:36:25 UTC
Do any of the sounds in the new KDEVibes package suit a "New message" sound
better? These will ship with KDE 3.4, so we could use them easily.

http://artemio.net/projects/kdevibes/

Aternatively, maybe I will email this person and ask him to make some Kopete
sounds as well.

Comment 7 Bart Verwilst 2005-03-04 12:00:29 UTC
Kdevibes is pretty cool! But i'm afraid that using a sound that's currently in kdevibes will conflict with the original intention of that soundfile ( like window-focus sound and kopete msg sound same or something.. Would be great if the vibe-dude could create some new sound, that would stop the hammoraging in my head ;)

Thanks!

brain... still.. rotting... :p

in order to get new sounds, you're going to have to make them yourself, or find somebody to make them for you and contribute them. None of us have the knowledge or ability to make them, and the sounds we have now were contributed by somebody else AFAIK. At least you can turn them off, so it's not like we make you suffer through them :)

What about those sounds?
Comment 11 Alberto Gonzalez 2008-08-11 21:09:49 UTC
Found this old bug while searching. While I agree the sound was too annoying in Kopete shipped with KDE3, this has been solved in the one shipped with KDE4. In fact, the new sound is even too minimalistic, but that's ok (at least for me).

I guess this report is a candidate for being closed?

fixed in KDE4
