KPDF 0.4 (Using KDE 3.4.0) - A find button is available in the configuration for the Main Toolbar <kpdf_part>

I know, but I think it should be activate by default.

3.5.7 - I didn't change my mind ;-) - it's a usability issue.

Ferdinand,

it may be a usability issue for you but I really doubt it is for a broader range of users. Just like in any other KDE application the find action is quickly available and easily accessible via the Edit menu as well as the ctrl+f shortcut.
Moreover, Okular, the successor of kpdf, features a passive find bar that can be activated once and always be shown without interfering with other parts of the interface. Users who heavily rely on the find feature won't have to activate it over and over again.
