Description BogDan 2004-10-25 15:58:13 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.1)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS: Linux

-I own a PowerBook G4
-kernel 2.6.8
-i've loaded the modules for alsa for ppc platform (snd_powermac)
-arts starts with no problem (no error is reported), but when a sound starts playing is very noisy. Starts well (for about a second) after that it starts making only noise.

I must say that if i insert the oss module (dmasound_pmac) works only on 8 bits and the noise still persists. I've searched on debian-ppc, debian-kde mail-lists but nothing. With kernel 2.4.x works well but with 2.6 it "stinks". mpg321,xmms work well (with 2.4 as well as 2.6).
Comment 1 Allan Sandfeld 2004-10-25 16:10:07 UTC
Please report the debugging output of "artsd -l0", both when it starts and when you play something that ends up noisy. You will need to kill the old artsd daemon first "killall artsd".

Comment 4 Matt Rogers 2008-11-19 23:38:03 UTC
Arts is no longer developed and has been unmaintained for quite some time - more than 2 years. With phonon as the replacement for arts in KDE4, we're closing out all the arts bugs in Bugzilla since there is no chance of them being fixed.

Thanks
