Description Guillaume Castagnino 2004-10-16 01:25:55 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.1)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc 3.3.4
OS: Linux

When kde is compiled with the DO_NOT_COMPILE="doc" environment variable, no doc is installed.

kde-i18n-fr complains about this with this message while making install :
no english docs found in /usr/kde/3.3/share/doc/HTML/en/common/
make[4]: *** [install-nls] Erreur 1

It works when skipping the "docs" subdir in kde-i18n package. So I think DO_NOT_COMPILE="doc" should skip this directory in kde-i18n

If you shoot yourself in the foot, it's your problem. Sorry

NO ! I didn't shoot myself in my foot !
You offer a possibility not to compile some elements through the DO_NOT_COMPILE variable. If it breaks like this, it's a BUG !
And it's easy to correct ! Trying to install doc just in kde-i18n package when no doc is present and DO_NOT_COMPILE="doc" is meaningless ! so it's a BUG !

So if you don't want to correct this (which is quite simple to correct), and answer me so scornful, KDE is not a good desktop manager to have, and I will probably remove it from my computer and not advice it any more to the new users I convert to linux.

I didn't think such an answer could exist among the free software users and developers

Bye
