Description Jason Ekstrand 2004-09-30 18:27:31 UTC
Version: 1.10 (using KDE KDE 3.3.0)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
Compiler: cgg-3.3.4-r1
OS: Linux

kaudiocreator crashes when ever I click the button to rip cds, I press the rip button, and it gives me an error message, and closes.

I built it yesturday, on gentoo 2004.2 with gcc 3.3.4-r1, it gives the following output in the terminal when it crases:

kaudiocreator: ERROR: : couldn't create slave : Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'audiocd'.
kaudiocreator:
Alarm clock

I don't have any external plugins loaded. It crashes on any cd. Earlier it was just not ripping the tracks, and giving me error messages, now it is crashing.

KDE Crash handler says:
The application KAudioCreator (kaudiocreator) crashed and cause the signal 11 (SIGSEGV)

And gives me the following Backtrace information:
Using host libthread_db library "/lib/libthread_db.so.1".

Comment 1 icefox 2004-10-02 22:34:38 UTC
The error stems from the fact that you don't have kio::audioslave installed. It is part of the kdemultimedia package.

The crash I believe I have found as an error (not checking a pointer for NULL) and have fixed.
Comment 2 Jason Ekstrand 2004-10-04 19:17:38 UTC
I rebuilt the kdemultimedia package so that I would get
kio::audioslave and it still doesn't work

Using host libthread_db library "/lib/libthread_db.so.1".

What actions do you do before it crashes?
Comment 4 Jason Ekstrand 2004-10-08 05:05:40 UTC
I simply cddb, select a track and press the blue gear button on the
toolbar. and it crashes and burns.

What encoder do you have installed? Can you copy files from audiocd:/ to your home dir in konq?
Comment 6 Jason Ekstrand 2004-10-08 23:33:19 UTC
it tells me:
protocal not supported
audiocd

whenever I try to open Audio cd in konquorer.

Weird, if you installed kdemultimedia then audiocd should be installed. When you ./configure'd kdemultimedia did it give any warnings/errors?
Comment 8 Jason Ekstrand 2004-10-09 19:36:31 UTC
I use gentoo, so I don't know if it did or not.. I'll check into it tho.

OK, I've hand-compiled the sources from kde.org instead of portage,
and it doesn't crash anymore, instead, when I tell it to rip a cd, the
drive revs, and the light flickers, but it never accualy rips it. and
it isn't giving me any errors in the console

Now that it does something different what about when you try browsing to audiocd? Can you see the tracks and copy them?
Comment 11 Jason Ekstrand 2004-10-12 03:35:46 UTC
Just copying the music works beautifly, but I can't get the cds to rip
with kaudiocreator at all, but thanks for showing me that trick it's
awesome.

Okay, glad to solve it. I wonder why they were not built correctly in the first place. The new issue it sounds like the same issue that a lot of other people reported light flickers, but no or really really slow ripping. It has to do with a issue that only shows up in some hardware and a change in the drive querying. I have fixed it and the patch is in 3.3.1 (which was tagged last week and will be out very very shortly) When that is pushed out please try with it. Sorry you are having so many problems with 3.3.0, but I appreciate you following through with all these e-mails.

Thanks for your time in trying to debug it for me.

I have exactly the same original problem, compiled on the same versions of Gentoo/KDE 3.3 :

KAudioCreator crashes with ...

Fontconfig error: line 26: no element found
Fontconfig error: Cannot load default config file
kaudiocreator: ERROR: : couldn't create slave : Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'audiocd'.
kaudiocreator:
KCrash: Application 'kaudiocreator' crashing...
Fontconfig error: line 26: no element found
Fontconfig error: Cannot load default config file

I assume the Fontconfig errors are unrelated, but being a Linux noob...I'm not knowledgeable enough to compile from source so shall await 3.3.1.

Comment 15 Jason Ekstrand 2004-10-15 18:11:05 UTC
OK, here's what I did to correct it, go to kde.org, download the
sources, and compile it manualy, I think gentoo did something wrong
when making the ebuild, and compiling it by hand fixed it for me. cd's
may still not burn due to a problem that has been corrected for
kde3.3.1, but at least you can still brows the audio cd with konquorer
and rip it that way.

ok, you said that you were a noob, so here's what to do,

download the sources(kmultimedia-3.3.0.tar.bz2) into your home directory,

then open up a copy of konsole, and type:
tar -xvjpf kmultimedia-3.3.0.tar.bz2
cd kmultimedia-3.3.0
./configure
make
su (you will be asked for your root password)
make install
